Privacy Policy

The short version
TunerPal uses your microphone to hear the note you play and nothing else. Your audio is analysed on the phone and is never recorded, saved or sent. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Your settings and custom tunings stay on your device. The only thing that ever leaves the phone is an email address, and only if you type one into the optional Updates sign-up.
Microphone
TunerPal asks for microphone access the first time you start the tuner. While the tuner runs, it reads short slices of sound into memory, works out the pitch and throws the sound away. It stops listening when you stop the tuner or leave the app. Nothing you play or sing is stored or transmitted.
Permissions
TunerPal asks you for one permission:
- Microphone: to detect the pitch of your instrument or voice.
Android grants two more without asking:
- Internet: used only by the optional Updates sign-up described below. Tuning, reference tones and the metronome work offline.
- Vibration: to buzz when a practice timer finishes.
The app also declares a private permission that the AndroidX library adds so that only TunerPal can receive its own internal messages. It gives TunerPal no access to anything else.
What is stored on your device
TunerPal keeps these on your phone, in its private app storage, so it can start where you left off:
- Your theme, A4 calibration, cents precision, keep-awake setting and reference-tone instrument
- The tuning you last selected, and any custom tunings you create
- Your metronome tempo, time signature and sound
- Whether you have signed up for updates (yes or no; not the address itself)
This data is not sent anywhere and is not included in Android backups. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling TunerPal deletes it.
Email sign-up (optional)
Settings has an Updates field. If you type your email address and tap Join, TunerPal sends that address, with a label saying it came from the TunerPal app, to LD Coda's sign-up service, hosted on Amazon Web Services. If you never use the field, TunerPal makes no network requests.
The newsletter form on this website sends the address you enter to the same service, labelled as coming from the TunerPal website. We use these addresses only to send occasional LD Coda news, and we never sell or share them. To be removed, email tunerpal@ldcoda.com.
Advertising, analytics and third parties
TunerPal contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking libraries, no in-app purchases and no account system. When TunerPal is sold on Google Play or the App Store, the purchase is handled by the store under its own privacy policy.
This website
tunerpal.ldcoda.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It saves the theme you pick (Classic or Stage Pro) in your browser's local storage. The newsletter form works as described under Email sign-up above. The App Store and Google Play badges are loaded from Apple's and Google's servers. Messages sent through the contact form are delivered to us by Formspree.
Children
TunerPal is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, the newsletter or the Updates sign-up, email tunerpal@ldcoda.com and we will delete it.
Your rights
- Access and deletion: everything TunerPal stores is on your device; clear the app's storage or uninstall it to delete it all. To delete an email address you gave us, write to tunerpal@ldcoda.com.
- EU and UK (GDPR): we rely on your consent for the email sign-ups and the contact form. Contact submissions are kept for up to two years. You can complain to your local data protection authority.
- California (CCPA): you can ask what we hold about you and ask us to delete it. We do not sell personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
